We are living through a period of rapid and interconnected change. Climate change, technological transformation, geopolitical shifts, demographic change, and economic transitions are reshaping the systems we depend on. Foresight and futures thinking offer fields of study and practice for engaging with complexity and uncertainty. We believe futures thinking is most valuable when it becomes part of how decisions are made.
The Centre for Foresight Studies aims to bring long-term and intergenerational perspectives into the decisions, institutions, and conversations that shape our collective futures. We do this by:
• Exploration: We investigate emerging change, complexity, and uncertainty through research, signals and trends analysis, scenarios, participatory foresight, and policy stress-testing. We make possible futures and their implications visible, helping actors question assumptions and consider alternatives.
• Action: Foresight matters when what we learn changes what we do today. We translate insights from research and collective exploration into decisions, strategies, and interventions through policy, organisational change, coalitions, public conversations, advocacy, or other forms of action.
• Capability: We work with policymakers, experts, citizens, young people, civil society, and industry to develop the ability to think beyond immediate horizons and engage with uncertainty. Our ambition is to help make future thinking an enduring capability within organisations and institutions.
