AI's Game-Changing Impact on 2024 Global Elections:

Future Shift Labs is elated to unveil a pivotal policy paper, titled “The pervasive influence of AI on global political campaigns in 2024” which has deeply analysed the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in shaping political campaigns during the 2024 global elections. The paper delves on the use of AI in the various areas of the election campaigns such as voter targeting, campaign outreach, ethical concerns that are associated with the generation of AI (genAI) and deepfake technology. It also delves into the rising threat of AI-powered disinformation, a significant issue in recent electoral processes.

We are delighted and honoured to have the paper authored by Alisha Butala, Dr. Christopher Nehring, and Mateusz Łabuz, and edited by Aastha Naresh Kohli who have captured the topic through their expertise and deep insights while putting comprehensive insights into how AI is transforming electoral strategies while posing challenges to democratic integrity. The initiative is made possible through partnerships with Kairos Communications (South Africa) as the principal partner and IPE 2025, where the research paper will be presented.
The research methodology combines expert interviews, case studies from India, the USA, and Argentina, and instances of Russia’s use of Gen (Ai) and an all-encompassing review of regulatory frameworks from global perspectives. The paper provides the need for clear regulations together with ethical standards to address the risks associated with AI in elections.
Through this endeavour and many more in line, Future Shift Labs remains committed to providing actionable solutions for ethical AI use in political campaigns, advocating for transparency, accountability, and the protection of democratic processes in the face of emerging technologies.
